Court says no need for town to return car taxes

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The state Supreme Court has ruled that the town of Lincoln does not have to give back $250,000 to car owners who claimed they paid too much in excise taxes.
Residents had argued in a class action suit that in 2004 the town taxed vehicles at too high a rate compared to the property tax rate.
A 2005 Superior Court ruling in favor of tax payers meant the town of Lincoln faced having to give back a quarter million dollars in rebates.
The Providence Journal reports that Wednesday’s high court ruling will likely mean the 20 other communities in similar situations would be protected from having to return money to tax payers.

It seems that the situation is normal. The government rips off the taxpayers like this and yet doesn’t have to pay them back. Yet let the taxpayers get behind in their payments and the government is on their backs with late fees and penalties.
And you government pols wonder why the people hate you so much??? LOL!
