Connecticut will require 10-digit dialing

Ten-digit dialing comes to Connecticut next week.

The change is in anticipation of two new area codes for the state.

The state Department of Public Utility Control said all telephone calls made in Connecticut must include the area code beginning Nov. 14.

Calls outside of a customer’s local calling area will require a 1 before the area code.  Local calls can be dialed without the 1.

The new dialing rule is being made in anticipation of two new area codes in Connecticut.

The DPUC said the 475 area code will be added in December to the area served by 203 and that the 959 area code will be added at a future date to the area served by 860.

The new area codes are overlays and won’t require consumers to change their existing phone numbers.
