NARRAGANSETT, R.I.—The Coast Guard has recovered a body off Black Point in Narragansett, believed to be a man who had jumped into the roiling sea to save his wife.

Michael Oliveira, 43, never reappeared after he jumped into Rhode Island Sound off Black Point last month to go after his wife Tammie, also 43, when she fell.

Searchers recovered Tammie Oliveira’s body the same day, but had been unable to locate Michael Oliveira’s body.

The family of Tammie Oliveira had planned a funeral for Monday, but opted to delay it so they could have a joint funeral.

The couple, both 43, had been married for only two months.

Investigators said the clothing on the body matched that worn by Michael Oliveira. A formal identification is expected Monday.
