FALL RIVER, Mass.—Fall River officials and the family of the late Paul McGovern gathered to dedicate a new monument Monday.

Paul K. McGovern Square is a triangular, landscaped island at the intersection of Showy Street and South Main, near Vernon Street.

McGovern, who died on January first of 2007, was the highly respected owner of McGovern’s Family Restaurant, a popular local eatery.

Mayor Robert Correia called McGovern an activist and a philanthropist, who loved his city.
