Carcieri stops state funding to ACORN-RI

Gov. Don Carcieri on Friday ordered all state agencies to immediately stop any payments being made to the Rhode Island chapter of ACORN.
ACORN—Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now—is facing scrutiny after the release of hidden-camera video on Monday. Two ACORN employees are seen apparently advising a couple that was posing as a prostitute and her pimp to lie about her profession and launder her earnings.
“It is unconscionable for a single dime of taxpayer money be spent to support an organization that is engaged in this type of activity,“ Carcieri said in a news release sent to NBC 10. “I am ordering a review of each state department, agency, and quasi-public agency to determine if ACORN is benefitting from taxpayer dollars.“
The U.S. House of Representatives voted Thursday to deny all federal funds for ACORN in a GOP-led strike against the scandal-tainted community organizing group that comes just three days after the
Senate took similar action.
U.S. Sen. Sheldon Whitehouse, D-R.I., was one of just seven senators to vote Monday against the amendment. He said he did not want to punish the entire group for the actions of a few workers.
ACORN spokesman Scott Levenson blasted the video shot at the organization’s Brooklyn office, saying the group believes the voices of the couple were dubbed over to alter the conversation and
make the interaction appear more objectionable than it may have been.
ACORN said Wednesday that it is ordering its own independent investigation of the incidents, while stressing that they were isolated cases.

Chesapeake, I agree with your father; I believe that their ignorance is part of the problem. Getting into mud-slinging and name calling has gotten this country nowhere. I have done neither, because I don’t know these people and they do not know me. I am wrong, in their minds, simply because they assume that I am a Republican, and in a previous topic, a Christian. My concern in this matter is because I am an American. Both Republicans and Democrats have contributed to our current state. We don’t agree, and that is fine, but if we don’t find a way to work together, “right” and “wrong” don’t really matter.

here we go, again…ristinks… why don’t you just leave this state if you think that it “stinks”? why should an entire organization be punished if, allegedly, 2 members did wrong? i will stick with sheldon whitehouse, and all of the rest of those who know that you narrow minded residents of this state have no clue…

I understand, for me to take the issue so strongly gives what he says credibility.
My Father says find fault with the issue not person behind it.
Thats easier said than done with some of the things I have heard him say.
I just want him to understand that our Government is broken, and both Democrats and Republicans have broken it. To discredit one party because of unquestionable loyaty to the other is why the government is broken. I’ve seen, I’ve read it, I can prove it.

Chesapeake, I agree wholeheartedly!! He scares me too. I am just hoping that pointing out the simpler issue that someone who puts forth their arguments SO poorly, can’t possible have anything of value to say. I agree with that you that his number 1 purpose is to cause discord.
That said, I do know how damaging Kenneth’s kind of talk can be. While I like to add a little humor to what I know is a serious subject, I leave the rebuttal to those more eloquent than I. Keep at it my friend, I feel as strongly as you do about this.
