Brown U. student dies in fall from roof in China

PROVIDENCE—Brown University officials say a student who was studying in China has died after falling from the rooftop terrace of a Beijing apartment building.
   
Officials said Saturday they learned about the death of junior Arun Stewart of Dallas from Chinese authorities Friday evening.
   
President Ruth Simmons says in a message to the campus community that Stewart lost his footing and fell while he was attending a recent gathering of friends.
   
Stewart had been studying in China for a year and was pursuing a bachelor’s degree in East Asian Studies.
   
Simmons says the chaplain’s office will host an informal gathering at 6 p.m. Sunday for students who want to remember Stewart, and a memorial service will be held after Thanksgiving.
