WARWICK, R.I.—A Central Falls man accused of abusing and assaulting his girlfriend’s 6-year-old son was charged with murder Thursday.

Prosecutors upgraded charges against 27-year-old Michael Patino, who was arraigned in District Court in Warwick. A judge ordered Patino held without bail and that he have no contact with the child’s mother and his daughter.

Police said they found 6-year-old Marco Nieves unconcious in a Cranston apartment on Sunday morning. He was pronounced dead at Hasbro Children’s Hospital in Providence.

The state medical examiner said the boy died from a blow to the stomach that ruptured his small intenstine.

M. Christine O’Connell, Patino’s public defender, declined to comment on the case Thursday.

Patino, who does not have a publicly listed phone number, did not enter a plea. An arraignment in Superior Court is scheduled for December.

A wake for Marco will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the Robbins Funeral Home in North Providence.  The boy’s funeral is scheduled for 10 a.m. Friday at our Lady of Grace Church in Johnston.

it actually cost the taxpayers more to carry out the death penalty then to pay for someone to go to jail for life.

Yes Shocked,

Your so shocked and saddend….?

Well,....we’re all shocked a saddend by this! Let’s see…..

HOW ABOUT MORTIFIED!!!!!

Do you think Mom or Mike got any sleep that night…I mean while Maco lied in his bed dying?

She obviously alowwed him to punish her son?? BUY A PUNCH IN HIS STOMACH THAT TOAR HIS INTESTINES APART!!!

Whoever was in that house let that beautiful boy die….alone! Police had to find him unresponsive not an EMT?

Oh I agree…she should be standing beside him, and whoever was in that house that night.

As far as standing on a soapbox….sombody killed a little boy!

Rooftop, Mountain, I don’t care where I’m standing I’LL SHOUT THIS TILL THE COWS COME HOME!

Whoever killed this boy…whoever let this boy linger in bed all night or…. did he wake them up early and was killed for it. Whoever is proved to have done this or knew about this a did nothing needs to be taken out of our society forever!

GOD HELP HIS FATHER…Oh I’m so sorry for you Mr. Nieves.

My heart breaks for this child.
Article reads that family members notified the Cran Police of threats…ALWAYS contact DCYF with any thought of abuse to a child!
The mother had to see some signs of something; anger, rage, dislike, frustration, tempers, opinions, ect….  I cant imagine her pain right now, but I would have to say I would feel guilt as well.  It’s a parents obligation to protect our children, no matter what!
Another person in this country, on a passport-no passport, which ever the case…not a US Citizen, taking the life of another human being, and a child at that!  This is disgusting!  This man will hopefully get his at the ACI.  We shouldnt have to pay for 3 meals a day!  My heart goes out to his family, this boys father must be devasted.

I don’t understand why some mothers’ HAVE to have a guy in their life.  Even if it mean putting a child in harms way.  Could she have know.  maybe/maybe not.  There have been cases where the mother doesn’t want to do anything about it for fear of losing “her man”  thats just wrong.  I hope she didn’t know!!  A friend of mine is close to her father and from what i understand she is/was a very good mother.  Who knows.  We’ll soon find out

I am so shocked by mike and saddend by this. I cant believe he would ever do this..EVER.
I wish you would all get off your soapbox. After all, where was THE MOTHER in all of this? She obviously ALLOWED him to punnish her son. Or she would have done something about this. Instead she moved him into her home. She needs to be standing there next to him on trial!! No one is asking her any questions??? thats bull!!!
I look forward to hearing the trial..for all we know maybe the mother did this but the boyfriend is getting the blame. No one knows till it all unfolds in court.
My prayers are with both families as this is such a horrible and sad time.

Unfortunately, this will only stop when the punishment fits the crime.  When life in prison means LIFE IN PRISON without the possibility of parole. But, unless he his convicted of First degree murder, (which I doubt he will be, even though he should).  I agree with all of you about what his punishment should be.

My heart goes out to the little boys family. This is an unspeakable crime that was carried out by a monster in the true meaning of the word. That little boy suffered a fate that I shudder to think about. He didn’t sucumb to his wounds right away, this animal let him suffer. And what does Patino get? No doubt he will enjoy three square meals a day at the ACI and they will afford him protection from the inmates who want to slaughter him, all at our expense mind you. But hey, it’s Rhode Island we’ll just lay off workers to pay for it. Texas and Florida have it right with the death penalty for instances like this.

Lenny.. in my previous comments i said death penality.  Why should we have to pay for him.  Then i thought about it.  why should he get off as easy as dying.  He wont suffer.  Let him suffer.  Let him get beat up.  Let him get whatever his fellow inmates feel fit!  If we did reinstate the death penalty what about those that truly are innocent and got a raw deal.  How bout that Warwick cop.  Imagine.  He would have been put to death and he was innocent.  It really is a tough call!  All i hope is that he gets everything he has coming to him @ the ACI!!!!

Maybe RI should reinstate the death penalty.  Then most of these losers won’t cost us anything by rotting in jail.
