Boston trolley driver may have ignored signal

BOSTON- Federal investigators say a trolley operator killed when her train rammed another apparently ignored a faulty red stop signal.
Investigators with the National Transportation Safety Board say they are not sure how long the signal in suburban Newton was stuck in the stop position. But they said operator Terrese Edmonds should have halted her two-car trolley for one minute.
Instead, her train went through the area on May 28, 2008, and struck a slower-moving train that had previously stopped at the signal.
Investigators also found broken connections between track sections, cleaving the signal that would have made the signal go on and off correctly.
The documents released Monday show Edmonds was not impaired by drugs or alcohol at the time of the crash.
