PROVIDENCE—Residents in three Rhode Island towns are being advised to boil their water because tests have found the bacteria E. coli in the public water supply.

The Rhode Island Department of Health on Tuesday said the tests showed E. coli in the Bristol County Water Authority water system. The authority serves Barrington, Bristol and Warren.

The health department said water should be boiled first if residents plan to drink it or use it to brush their teeth, make ice, cook or bathe infants with it.

The water should be boiled for a minute, which is enough to kill bacteria and other organisms.  Health officials said water should be boiled even if you use a filter or a purifier.

The health department said people can also use bottled water.

Officials said they don’t know how the water supply became contaminated.  E. coli usually indicates the presence of human or animal waste in the water.

E. coli can cause diarrhea, cramps, nausea or headaches, but health officials said there have been no reports of illnesses.

Anyone with serious symptoms should call their doctor.

What day was the problem discovered and when were people notified? Sunday to Tuesday? Are you serious?

My humble appoligies to all, especially Turn to Ten.  My son-in-law used my ID to log on.  Serves me right for giving that info out.  Clearly this article is self explainatory and provides all the necessary and pertinant information.

im sorry, but it does not actually list the names of the towns. and because of the short distance from mass-ri there is good reason to worry about the warning. both areas water comes from the same place.

Gloucester MA just lifted (last night) an 18-day boil water order.  So, when is the BCWA going to be delivering bottled water?  Are they going to be reducing our bills for not delivering safe water?  And yet they will approach state utilities commission for a rate increase…

I cannot believe that quote by Jackie62.  The post by TV 10 clearly states it’s Brtistol County in RI and even names the 3 towns involved!!!!

#1 This is turnto10.com, not projo.
#2 It says “The Rhode Island Department of Health”...and lists a “401” number for Bristol County Water Authority, why would you think its Bristol County, MA?

I can not believe that they would post this article without providing more information like: what towns are affected….....DAH! I am a seekonk resident, but reside in Bristol county, MA.  I had to call my water department to find out that we are not affected. Most people have no idea where their water comes from.  This was one of the most irresponsible articles I have read in a long time.  Shame, shame Projo
