CHARLESTOWN, R.I.—Police say they were able to cap off an investigation into a liquor store robbery in Charlestown by finding the owners of two hats left behind.

Police tell The Sun of Westerly that two 17-year-old boys broke into Rippy’s Liquor and Marketplace on Nov. 16 and made off with $1,000 worth of tobacco products, alcohol and lighters. They also caused an estimated $5,000 in damage.

Investigators found a Boston Celtics cap and a Chicago Bulls cap at the scene.

They showed the headwear around the neighborhood and in local schools, eventually developing leads that led them to the suspects last week.

Police say the teens, whose names were not released because of their age, are also suspects in a vandalism spree at a local auto body shop.
