Air conditioner may be reason for fire

CUMBERLAND, R.I.—Fire left a family in Cumberland homeless Saturday night.
Police said the fire broke through the roof of a home at 35 Hopkins Terrace, in the Valley Falls section, at about 7:15 pm.
At one point, firefighters were pulled out of the building and had to fight the flames defensively. Police said it appears the fire started in an air conditioner.
There were no reports of injuries.
