SMITHFIELD, R.I.—A fire that damaged three businesses in Smithfield early Tuesday may have been caused by an electrical problem, investigators said.

Flames broke out at about midnight at a strip mall at 99 Pleasant View Ave.  No one was hurt.

Shop & Go Groceries, One-Stop Collectibles and Bob’s Restaurant were seriously damaged when flames went through the roof of the shopping center.

Firefighters from Johnston and Harmony assisted. The fire was put out within an hour.
