PROVIDENCE—A second mosquito pool in Rhode Island has tested positive for Eastern equine encephalitis.

State environmental officials on Monday announced the positive result from a trap set at Peckham Farm at the University of Rhode Island.

It is the second positive EEE test of the year in Rhode Island. It came from a species of mosquitoes that officials said bites both birds and humans.

Health officials have urged residents to protect themselves against mosquito bites.
