REHOBOTH, Mass.—Police on Wednesday arrested two South Shore men in connection with a home invasion in Rehoboth.
Paul Matthews was arrested at his home in Rockland, and James McDonald was picked up at his home in Weymouth.
They were arraigned in Taunton District Court on a number of charges, including armed home invasion, assault, kidnapping and armed robbery.
“We arrested them at approximately 1 a.m. after we had obtained two arrest warrants and a search warrant for a motor vehicle. There were approximately 50 to 60 officers involved in that arrest. Two entry teams at the respective towns, and it was conducted simultaneously,“ Rehoboth Police Chief Stephen Enos said.
Police said Matthews and McDonald worked with a third man, who was captured within hours of the home invasion on Friday.
Police said John Keough, of Malden, led officers on a chase in a car stolen from the house in Rehoboth, ultimately crashing in Slater Memorial Park. Police said Keough held a gun to his head as police surrounded him, but he eventually surrendered.
Police said the three suspects went to Rehoboth in the same car.
“They were active participants. Two of the suspects had entered the home, and one drove the vehicle,“ Enos said.
Police would not specify which suspects went into the home on School Street. They previously said an armed gunman went in and that the female homeowner was bound.
“As the weekend progressed—or as the day progressed—and the investigation progressed, that’s when we started to realize we may be looking for additional suspects,“ Enos said.
Investigators are still not saying why the house was targeted by three men who live some distance away.
“We’re following up a number of leads that are going to take some time,“ Enos said.
The woman was not hurt.
