27-year-old RI legal battle resolved

PROVIDENCE, R.I. - A 27-year-old Rhode Island lawsuit has finally been resolved.

The state Supreme Court last week dismissed with prejudice an appeal by the Inge Co., which sued Providence 27 years ago alleging that it breached its contract to provide the company with sludge from its sewage treatment plant.

The Providence Journal reported that the court, which said it was “dismayed” by the age of the suit, dismissed the appeal because Inge had its corporate charter revoked by the state in 1986 and has not legally been in existence for 23 years.

Inge was created to take the city’s sewage sludge and turn it into bricks that could be burned as fuel.

Inge filed for breach of contract in 1982 after a state commission took over the plant from the city.
