EAST PROVIDENCE, R.I. -- A Rhode Island woman was killed in a car crash on Long Island.

Police in Nassau County said Desiree Mesolella, 19, of Lincoln, was killed Sunday when the car in which she was riding crossed into oncoming traffic and struck another vehicle.

Mesolella was the daughter of former state Rep. Vincent Mesolella, who is currently the head of the Narragansett Bay Commission. Two other people were hospitalized.

Police said Ansaf Imbrahim, 21, the driver of the car Desiree Mesolella was in, will face charges of driving under the influence and second-degree manslaughter.

The principal of St. Mary Academy Bay View in East Providence said the school is planning a memorial for Mesolella. She graduated from the school in 2006.

Mesolella was a student at Adelphi University on Long Island.
