CRANSTON, R.I. -- Police on Thursday afternoon arrested a man accused of carjacking a woman in Warwick and raping her in Providence.

Saul Pizzarro-Aviles, 27, was arrested without incident in Providence.

Police said the carjacking happened Sunday night in a supermarket parking lot.

Police said Pizzarro-Aviles, who was armed with a knife, forced his way into the driver's seat of an idling vehicle in the parking lot of a supermarket on Quaker Lane. The woman was sitting in the passenger's seat.

Her mother was shopping inside the store at the time.

Police said the Pizzarro-Aviles drove the vehicle to Roger Williams Park in Providence, where he assaulted the woman. She reported that her attacker fled on foot.
