NORTH KINGSTOWN, R.I.—Gov. Don Carcieri has selected a New Jersey-based company to build a massive wind power project off the Rhode Island coast, the NBC 10 I-Team reported.

Deep Water Wind Rhode Island LLC is the company that will get the job. It could mean millions of dollars of investment in Rhode Island, according to the governor’s office.

A representative for the governor said a formal announcement will be made 1 p.m. Thursday at Quonset in North Kingstown.

The I-Team reported that a former high ranking official with the Carcieri administration is a lawyer for the winning bidder.
