I-Team: Civilian operator charged with obstructing police

A Providence communications employee was charged with obstructing police for allegedly tipping off a suspected drug dealer.

Kristen McCaffrey appeared in court Thursday.

Sources told the I-Team last month that a Providence narcotics officer was tailing a drug suspect when he called McCaffrey to run the license plate of the suspect’s car.

Police said McCaffrey made a phone call to warn the suspect he was being followed.

All phone calls to and from the call center are recorded.

McCaffrey has been suspended without pay.
