PROVIDENCE—Gasoline prices fell 2 cents a gallon in Rhode Island as the Labor Day weekend brought the unofficial close to summer.

AAA Southern New England said in its weekly survey released Tuesday that the average price of regular unleaded gas was $2.67 a gallon. The state Energy Office pegged the price a bit higher, at $2.69 a gallon.

Last year at this time, gasoline cost 33 percent more, or $3.55 a gallon.

Gasoline prices in Massachusetts dropped 3 cents, the first decrease in seven weeks.

AAA New England found 1 gallon of self-serve, regular unleaded cost $2.61, which is four cents above the national average but still 94 cents less than at the same time last year. Full serve cost 11 cents more.

AAA found gas as low as $2.44 and as high as $2.89 per gallon.
