PROVIDENCE -- A Marine has admitted robbing a Providence bank and using the identity of a fellow service member to steal money.

Daniel Tejeda pleaded guilty Monday to charges of identity theft and bank robbery. Federal prosecutors said he could face up to 30 years in a prison.

A sentencing hearing is scheduled for Nov. 14.

Prosecutors said Tejeda stole personal information from a fellow Marine's wallet in 2005 while he was training as a reservist in South Carolina. After returning to Rhode Island, Tejeda used the information to swindle $5,100 from a credit union and get a cell phone.

He also robbed nearly $6,000 from another bank, prosecutors said.

Tejeda's lawyer did not return a call seeking comment. A Marine spokesman could not immediately comment on Tejeda's status.
