Gas prices in Rhode Island are on a three-week slide.

Separate weekly surveys by AAA Southern New England and the Rhode Island Office of Energy Resources show a gallon of regular, unleaded is averaging $3.86 a gallon. The price has dropped about 8 cents over last week's state survey and 9 cents below AAA's survey.

Despite the drop, gas prices are still 34 percent more expensive than this time last year.

Motorists in Rhode Island are paying slightly less than the national average of $3.88.
