Companies to pay for recycling TVs

JOHNSTON, R.I. -- Rhode Islanders are currently paying to recycle their old television sets, but that could change by next year.

The Central Landfill in Johnston has already collected 675,000 pounds of TVs and computers this year.

Starting next year, however, companies that sell TVs and computers in Rhode Island will start paying the cost of the recycling program.

If you want to recycle your old computers and televisions, the landfill is hosting a collection day on July 26.  Disposing of a television set will cost $5.  There is no charge to drop off a computer.
