NBC 10 Wins Regional AP Awards
CRANSTON, R.I. -- NBC 10 won best newscast honors in the annual Massachusetts/Rhode Island Associated Press radio and television awards competition.
The winners were announced Wednesday.
NBC 10 also won awards in the categories of general news reporting, continuing coverage, and public affairs.
Health Check reporter Barbara Morse Silva and photographer Bob Emerson were honored in the general news category for a report on a victim of shaken-baby syndrome.
The segment profiled a local family whose child was shaken by a baby sitter and who is speaking out to educate others about how a second of frustration can leave a baby disabled for life.
The station was noted for its continuing coverage of the immigration raid on Michael Bianco Inc. in New Bedford.
The AP also honored NBC 10 for the public affairs program "Does Gender Matter?" The special examined how boys and girls learn differently. It was produced by Candace Bonn and hosted by Kelley McGee.
NBC 10 competed against stations in Providence and Springfield, Mass.
The awards will be presented April 4. The News Station of the Year winners will also be announced on that date.
