JOHNSTON, R.I.—A giant pumpkin from Rhode Island is heading to Washington.

Norman Gansert, of Johnston, grew the pumpkin and he loaded it up for the trip south on Thursday.

His pumpkin was one of three from around the country chosen for a Halloween party on the White House lawn this weekend.

Gansert’s giant pumpkin was picked not just for its size, but also for its shape and color.
