Camping, canoeing to celebrate RI park service

PROVIDENCE—State environmental officials are holding camping and nature activities this weekend as part of a celebration of 100 years of park service in Rhode Island.
The Department of Environmental Management is holding its latest “great outdoors pursuit” event at Burlingame State Campground in Charlestown on Saturday.
Teams receive points for participating in the department initiative, which is designed to encourage outdoor activities. Teams are eligible for prizes at the last event on Aug. 23.

This weekend, teams participating in the 12-week contest can camp overnight free at the Burlingame State Campground.
Other activities include canoe rides, tree identification, hikes and reptile shows.
