Special Section: Interstate 195 Relocation Project

Construction on the last major phase of the Interstate 195 relocation program is getting under way in downtown Providence.

RIDOT is building the connection from I-195 west to I-95 north.

Drivers heading north on 95 will encounter a new traffic pattern beginning Monday night. The northbound lanes will be split with two lanes to the left and one lane to the right.

Drivers headed to exit 21, Broadway, will need to stay to the right at the split.

“Drivers need to plan ahead and be in the right lane to access Exit 21,“ DOT Director Michael Lewis said in a news release. “All three lanes let you continue on I-95, but only the right lane will let you take the Broadway exit.“

Drivers who miss the exit should continue to exit 22A to get to their destinations.
