Study: Boys more likely to have asthma
Study Focuses On Asthma
Aug. 15 -- Boston researchers looks at the gender differences in children with asthma. They tracked 1,000 young asthma patients for nine years, testing their airway responsiveness.
They report that boys are more likely than girls to have childhood asthma. But boys are also more likely to "grow out of it."
Researchers found almost no difference in girls' airways over the years. But generally, boys showed improvement as they got older. The study found differences starting to appear during early puberty.
Scientists say biological differences between the genders may account for the changes in boys, but they're recommending further research on the issue.
