Grandma Marcia’s Sweet and Sour Meatballs

(Serves 4-6)

INGREDIENTS
FOR THE MEATBALLS:
Ground beef 2 pounds
Pineapple, chopped 1/2 cup
Pepper to taste
Salt to taste
Egg, beaten 1
Bread crumbs 1/2 cup (or more for firmer texture)
Oil enough to brown

FOR THE SAUCE:
Pineapple, chopped 1/2 cup
Tomato sauce, canned 8 ounces
Water, hot 1 cup
Lemon juice 1/4 cup
Brown sugar 1/4 cup
Salt 1/8 teaspoon

METHOD OF PREPARATION
FOR THE MEATBALLS:
1. In a bowl, mix the meat, pineapple, pepper, salt, egg and bread crumbs.
2. Form the mixture into tiny meatballs.
3. Brown them in oil.
4. Remove from pot. Set aside

FOR THE SAUCE:
1. In a large pot, bring to a simmer all of the ingredients listed, for about 5 minutes.
2. Add the meatballs and cook for 1/2 hour.
3. Serve.
