Doreen started her showbiz career at the tender age of 8 in front of 20,000 people with none other than Diana Ross and the Supremes. Not willing to share the limelight, Doreen and Miss Ross parted ways immediately after the performance.
Since then, Doreen has been an active member in SAG, AFTRA, and AGVA and performed Off-Broadway, on television, film and radio. She’s done stand-up, trade shows, singing telegrams, and paid practical jokes. There is nothing that can embarrass this little woman, a fact obvious to anyone who has seen “BOOZICAL: The Musical – The Unorganized Biography of Doreen Collins”, her most recent one-woman show.
A theater major at New York University (studying under Stella Adler), Doreen also received her cosmetology license from the Robert Fiance School of Cosmetology (NYC) – neither of which has gotten her anywhere, validating why she is living in Rhode Island under an assumed name(s).
Ron Cesario is currently the Brown University Costume Shop Manager. He is formerly from Trinity Repertory Company, where he served 14 years, the last 10 as costume director. He is also the Resident Costume Designer for 2nd Story Theater, having designed over 40 productions there.
Other credits include designs for the Helen Hayes Performing Arts Center, Cape Cod Playhouse, Theater IV Virginia, Perishable Theater, Trinity Rep Conservatory and Rhode Island College.
Ron was costume designer for "Boozical: The Musical" and was an original cast member. He also designs stagewear for "The Khris Francis Show" and gowns for the fabulous Miss Ladiva Jonz.
Jim Carroll has been performing on (and off) stage since he was 4 years old. Jim is an alumni of the University of the Arts in Philadelphia.
He was the cabaret director/host at Theater By The Sea in Matunuck and performed in the mainstage shows such as "Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat," "Damn Yankees," "The King and I," "Bye, Bye Birdie" and "Anything Goes."
Jim performed with the Ocean State Follies for five years and this is where he met Doreen. He performed with Doreen in her one woman show, "Boozical: The Unorganized Biography of Doreen Collins" as Chorus Boy.
Jim is happy to ride out the rest of his community service with Rhode Bytes. ![]()
A little more than 10 years ago while standing on street corners making music, the sometimes deranged trio of Lindsey Backbone Bruins, Frank Spicola and Catfish Jim Gillen decided it would be warmer to play indoors, and like magic The Recovery All Stars were born!
It evolved into a musical therapy group held at CODAC in Providence and SSTAR in North Kingstown ....then: Coffee Houses, Festivals, Churches, Treatment Centers, Bright Nights, Schools, Nursin Homes, Holiday Parties, Prison (huh?)..... Well you get the idea.
We are also the official band of Recovery Month (September). So, 10 years and maybe 100 members later the lineup is Frank on guitar, Lindsey on congas, Michael Capeles on congas, and newest member Darryl Clay on bass, along with the old Catfish on flutes, sax and tin whistles. On occasion: Doreen Collins: vocals and percussion.
We met our fame and fortune the day the great Doreen Collins asked us to be the Rhode Bytes Band. She told us we could even play indoors!!!!! Through the support of The Providence Center
"Rhode Bytes" airs the second and fourth weekend of every month, immediately following "Saturday Night Live" on NBC 10.
