Dr. Frankenstein and his creation hit the boards in Providence.

The national tour of the Mel Brooks’ musical “Young Frankenstein” opened Tuesday night at the Providence Performing Arts Center.

Award-winning Broadway director Susan Stroman accompanied the cast to Rhode Island to make sure all the costumes are perfect and the actors are in step.

“We’ve tightened it and tweaked it and had to change it a little bit for the road just because we have to move from city to city. But I have a feeling all the changes are even better than what it was on Broadway,“ Stroman said.

Stroman won a Tony Award for directing another Broadway hit, “The Producers.“

“Young Frankenstein” runs at PPAC through Sunday.
