Winner of NBC 10 Prom Giveaway revealed!

CRANSTON, R.I.—NBC 10 is very excited to announce that Chariho High School is the winner of the NBC 10 Prom Giveaway!
The promotion began on Monday, March 16, 2009, at noon on turnto10.com. For several months, students, families, friends and educators were encouraged to log on to turnto10.com; KEYWORD: PROM to vote for their favorite school. The contest allowed for one vote per day/per registered user and, overall, turnto10.com received more than 44,000 votes from various schools throughout Rhode Island and Bristol County, Mass. In the end, Chariho High School received the most votes and the school will receive a prom at The Crowne Plaza Hotel at the Crossings in Warwick in May 2010 with entertainment provided by A Better Sound. There will be random drawings for students in the winning class to also receive other prizes, including a prom dress and scholarship from Party Dress Express in Fall River; tuxedo rentals from Waldorf Tuxedo; photography services by A Moment in Time Photography; tanning services from 2nd to the Sun Tanning; and gift certificates for hair, makeup and nail services at Salon Bianco. The promotion ended on Sept. 16, 2009 at 11:59pm. The principal of Chariho High School, Bob Mitchell, was contacted by NBC 10 and they have accepted the prize. Chariho High School is a comprehensive 9-12 high school comprised of the three towns of Charlestown, Richmond and Hopkinton, R.I., and includes the Narragansett Native American community.

Congrats!! I live in Richmond, and can tell you that the kids in this area are the best!! Hope they all have a wonderful time.
I think this is a great idea and it’s nice to see this for our schools. However, NBC 10 should promote something more on the healthy and fun side rather than giving away free tanning! Let’s educate these kids on the dangers of skin cancer, not give them something that increases their odds of getting it!
