New Bedford rings in First Night at Zeiterion

The organizers of First Night New Bedford announced plans Tuesday for this year’s event.

First Night in the Whaling City is the fourth oldest in the country, but the celebration has been scaled back a bit this year because of the economy.

The event will begin at 8 p.m. at the Zeiterion Theatre. It will focus on a performance by the group Ornament, which is an orchestra of musicians playing a unique mix of music.

Buttons go on sale Wednesday for $5 apiece. They are available at Sovereign Bank branches, Shaw’s supermarkets and other locations until New Year’s Eve. You can also buy buttons at the event.
