Money woes put First Night Newport in jeopardy

The bad economy may lead to the end of a New Year’s Eve tradition in the City by the Sea.
The Newport Daily News reported that organizers will decide Dec. 1 whether First Night Newport will be canceled.
Organizers said the event is in serious debt. A September fundraiser fizzled and put the organization further in debt.
Officials said it costs about $30,000 to put on the event.
