VincentVincent “Buddy” Cianci Jr. made kind of a play for independence on July 3, 1984, and it was no easy day-before-the-holiday for the Rhode Island Supreme Court either.
Cianci had resigned from office three months earlier that year after he pleaded no contest to assaulting a man. He was trying to get the court to allow him to finish out his term of office.
