Twin River has notified 27 employees that Saturday will be their last day of work.
The Call of Woonsocket reported that the slot parlor will suspend live dog racing that day. Simulcasting will continue.
The layoff notices went to track announcers, betting clerks and other workers related to racing. Nine of the workers are full-time, and the other 18 work part time.
Twin River wants to permanently end greyhound racing, claiming it costs the company money.
But lawmakers passed a bill to require Twin River to hold live racing on 200 days. Current state law requires 125 days of live racing.
Gov. Don Carcieri vetoed the measure, but the General Assembly could override the veto when it reconvenes in September.
Twin River is negotiating with creditors in U.S. Bankruptcy Court.
