Textron announces layoffs

PROVIDENCE—Cutbacks are coming at one of Rhode Island’s largest industries.
Textron is laying off nearly 140 employees worldwide. The Providence Journal says 56 of those workers are employed at Textron’s corporate headquarters in downtown Providence.
The paper says Textron employs about 400 people in the state.
The global conglomerate says it has been impacted by the downturn in the U.S. economy.
