MASHANTUCKET, Conn. - Some 400 bartenders and beverage servers at the Foxwoods Resort Casino are voting on union representation.

The voting Wednesday is to decide if the workers will be represented by Westport-based Local 371 of the United Food and Commercial Workers Union.

If it is approved, Local 371 will become the second union to represent Foxwoods workers. The United Auto Workers is in negotiations with the casino on a contract for dealers.

The union has agreed to respect the sovereignty of the Mashantucket Pequot tribe, which owns and operates Foxwoods.

The UAW has also agreed to negotiated for a contract with the Mashantucket Pequot tribe under tribal law, rather than federal labor laws.
