Foxwoods seeking volunteers for job buyouts

MASHANTUCKET, Conn. — The Mashantucket Pequot Tribal Nation says it is reopening a voluntary buyout program for tribal government employees that could lead to some layoffs.

A spokeswoman for the tribe says letters have gone out to employees with the aim at cutting back staff.

The tribe owns the Foxwoods Resort Casino and MGM Grand at Foxwoods.

In May, under a similar voluntary buyout program, about 170 workers left the tribe’s payroll. Ten percent were laid off and the rest opted for a buyout package.
At that time, the buyout option included six months of compensation and benefits and one week’s salary per year worked up to 10 years.

This year, two rounds of layoffs at Foxwoods included about 100 employees, mainly managers, in June and another 700 in October at both Foxwoods and MGM Grand.
