FALL RIVER, Mass.—The curtain has closed on a Fall River business.
The Curtain Factory Outlet closed its store at the Wampanoag Mill last week.
Signs at the entrance thanked customers for their years of patronage and that returns and gift certificates will be honored at stores in Weymouth, Northbridge and Raynham.
Jolene Aussant said she was disappointed to see the closed sign.
“I’m setting up a new apartment. I was hoping to get some new curtains, hoping to get a good deal,“ she said.
Curtain Factory Outlet may not be the only business leaving the Wampanoag Mill.
Developer Gilbert Winn said he wants to turn the building into affordable apartments.
Winn said he’s still waiting on funding and has not closed on the property. If development plans move forward, Winn said tenants will have four months notice and wouldn’t have to leave until next spring at the earliest.
The owner of Curtain Factory Outlet told NBC 10 he was concerned about the uncertainty of the mill building’s future and didn’t want to have to move during his busy season, so he closed the store.
The owner of Party Dress Express, which is also located at the Wampanoag Mill, plans to move to a new location.
Candy Plus owner Felicia Coimbra hopes she doesn’t have to relocate.
“If they change the mills, what’re you going to do? I really don’t think you can do anything about it. We wish we could stay and I’m hoping we can stay,“ she said.
