When Mr. Laredo talks about “unemployment
benefits exhaustions “exploding”“ over
the past several months, could that possibly be because of the “800 pound
gorilla in the room”? otherwise known
as Rhode Island Labor Law Statute
28-44-11?
You know, that statute that requires the
claimant to earn at least five hundred
ninety-two dollars ($592.00) during their first twelve (12) months of unemployment or BARS them from collecting when their second year of unemployment begins; irregardless of how much money may be left in their Unemployment Insurance Compensation (UIC) accounts.
I have @ six thousand dollars ($6,000)
in my (second benefit year) UIC account,
but CANNOT TOUCH IT until I earn (at least) $592.00.
I’ve written to my state rep. & senator,
and the governor about this subject, but
@ four months later, I have not received
ONE SINGLE RESPONSE! What are they so afraid of??
Don’t take my word for this situation,
go to the R.I. Department of Labor & Training’s website and look up the details os R.I. Labor Law Statute 28-44-11 for Yourselves!!
Now is the time to contact your State
Reps, Senators, and the Governor and
get something done about this Labor Law
Statute that was never meant to be used
in an economic situation this severe!
Let’s get something done before the
“explosions of unemployment benefits
exhaustions” gets even worse!!
