PROVIDENCE -- Attorney General Patrick Lynch has approved the $2 million sale of Rhode Island's public radio station.

Lynch said Friday that the sale of WRNI by Boston University and the WRNI Foundation to Rhode Island Public Radio, a nonprofit corporation, is in the best interests of the state.

State law required that Lynch review the sale since it involved a public radio station and charitable assets. In a written statement, Lynch said the transaction will help expand the station's programming.

Lynch set several conditions, including requiring that Rhode Island Public Radio train its board members on their responsibilities and create an advisory council to advise on community needs and programming.
