Not only is R.I.'s unemployment rate high at 7.2 percent but the kinds of jobs that are available are not helping the economy, according to one top state official.

The sudden jump in Rhode Island's unemployment rate in May is grim proof that the state needs to accelerate its move to a "knowledge-based economy," some business leaders said last week.

Mark Murphy of the Providence Business News explains in this Business Talk.
