The West Warwick branch of the Division of Motor Vehicles will close Jan 1.
WEST WARWICK, R.I. – Your choices for the DMV has just been limited by two.
The state of Rhode Island announced on Tuesday the closing of the West Warwick and Westerly branches of the Division of Motor Vehicles on Jan. 1.
West Warwick and Westerly were chosen to close due to their proximity to other DMV branches and the amount of traffic at the locations.
The remaining branches in Pawtucket, Middletown, Wakefield, Warren, Woonsocket and the Rhode Island Mall will continue to operate under existing hours.

If you are closing to DMV to cut back why the employees being moved that is not really cutting back. All that is doing is causing more confusion for the people who use those DMVs.
With the current deficit, why RI has so many branches is amazing. The minimum distance between branches should be 25 miles. That would place it still as the smallest average distance between offices of any state, Or their should be one office of the DMV for every 200,000 licensed drivers. Part of the deficit problem is Rhode Islanters think “SMALL” We joke about distance, do not know how to drive and complain when asked to go over 5 miles to anything. Rhode Island is smaller than a number of CITIES in this country. Let’s start thinking like a city and treat a trip from West Warwick to Western Warwick (RI MALL) as a trip accross town, not accross the country.
I think that these closures are perfectly acceptable. The million dollar question is….will the other branches be equipped to handle the customers who frequented the offices that are closing???? Service is poor at best right now, I can only imagine what it will be like with this influx of additional customers. Looks like we’ll have to be taking a day off of work (if we have jobs) to visit the registry. Ahhhh, gotta love RI!
It’s not a sign of the times it’s a sign of dear old Donnie, doing what he has been trying to do for years, get rid of the W.Warwick branch for whatever reason. Must be that whoever owns the building isn’t one of his supporters or good buddies.
Seriously, this makes it difficult for some of us to get to the DMV and it really is not fair.
I agree that West Warwick is an excellent branch, compared to the rest of them, but the very best is to go to the AAA office. No lines, nice people, and highly efficient.
That really stinks. I think the West Warwick Branch is the best out of all of them and I live closer to the Westerly Branch. I guess it’s the sign of the times.
