PROVIDENCE—Local leaders will call for an end to more than a week of fighting between Israel and Hamas militants in the Gaza strip that has killed hundreds of people, including Palestinian civilians.

Rhode Island Gov. Don Carcieri and Providence Mayor David Cicilline are expected to join religious leaders at a vigil Sunday to pray for peace and the end of terrorism targeting Israel.

Among those scheduled to speak are Nadav Tamir, Consul General New England for Israel; Rabbi Peter Stein, president of the Rhode Island Board of Rabbis; and Donald Anderson, Executive Minister of the Rhode Island State Council of Churches.

The Jewish Federation of Rhode Island said in a press statement that the vigil will be held at Temple Emanu-El on Taft Avenue in Providence.

Timan, how did Bush create this mess? The fight in the Middle East was going on long before Bush took office. No President has been able to solve- Not Carter, Clinton or any other President. And neither will Obama. While there may be temporary peace at different times in the future, Hamas will never be able to accept Israel as a state in the Middle East. Obama is not going to be able to solve all of the maladies of the modern world.

Let’s say Vancouver were calling for the destruction of the US and denying it’s right to exist, and continually lobbed rockets into Seattle from neighborhoods where it’s citizens were being used as propoganda (all the dead and wounded civilians the news will show you) when struck back, how would America react to that?  Hamas doesn’t even have wide support among Arab countries yet they continue to provoke Israel on a daily basis.  Another mess Mr. Bush has left for Obama to clean up.  Godspeed Barack!

I’ve always believed in self preservation and Israel is more than justified in their actions.

Israel continually asks for the rocket attacks to stop, but they don’t. When the attacks do stop I believe Israel will live up to their word.
