Mass. Senate hopefuls honing pitch to woo voters

BROOKLINE, Mass.—It wasn’t exactly a debate, but the four Democratic candidates for the late Edward Kennedy’s U.S. Senate seat were meeting on the same turf for the first time to woo voters.

Attorney General Martha Coakley, U.S. Rep. Michael Capuano, City Year founder Alan Khazei and Boston Celtics co-owner Stephen Pagliuca all made their pitches to a gathering of the Brookline Democratic Town Committee Monday.

Capuano tried to position himself as the true liberal in the field while Coakley touted her record fighting foreclosures and Wall Street greed.

Khazei said he’d bring to the Senate the same organizing skills he used to build the community service organization while Pagliuca said he’d use his business background to lure jobs back to the state.
