If you’re trying to maintain a healthy diet on Thanksgiving there are plenty of good things you can eat.
Cranberries, for instance. Nutritionists at the Dana Farber Cancer Institute say cranberries are rich in benzoic acid, a nutrient that may stop the growth of lung and colon cancers and some forms of leukemia.
Don’t skip the pumpkin either. Pumpkins are packed with carotenoids another cancer fighting ingredient. You can even use the “sweet” or “pie” pumpkins in soups, ravioli and breads.
And finally, apples. There is actually some truth to that saying: “an apple a day keeps the doctor away.“
Studies show that eating one apple every day can fend off throat, mouth, colon and lung cancer. But skip the apple pie! Experts say the fruit actually loses its effect when peeled and combined with sugar and fat.
