CHARLESTOWN, R.I. – The Big Top is about to be raised.

The Big Apple Circus is in Rhode Island for the next week, and it is scheduled to put up the giant tent on Tuesday at Ninigret Park in Charlestown.

The tent can hold more than 1,700 people, with seats no further than 50 feet from the single ring of the traditional circus.

Made in Italy, the tent is 63 feet high at its peak and has a circumference of 440 feet.

It takes 35 people up to eight hours to raise the Big Top before the rest of the equipment can be installed.

The tent is even air conditioned.

Performances for the Big Apple Circus begin on Friday, July 10 and continue for 12 shows until Wednesday, July 15.
