PROVIDENCE – If you are a local artist, the state of Rhode Island is looking for you. Gov. Don Carcieri and the Rhode Island State Council on the Arts is inviting artists to submit work for the Scenes of Rhode Island Exhibit and awards.

Governor and Mrs. Carcieri select one of the entries as “Best in Show” and two additional works as second and third place winners. The “Best in Show” winner will become the property of the Governor and Mrs. Carcieri and it will be displayed prominently at the State House throughout the Carcieri Administration.

Limited edition posters of the image will be produced and will be signed and numbered by the artist.

Entries must be two-dimensional, original works of art that in some way depict the Ocean State and that have not been previously entered into the Scenes of Rhode Island Exhibition and Awards, nor have been reproduced or widely shown.

Artists must submit up to three slides or one disc of no more than three entries to the Rhode Island State Council on the Arts for the selection process. Slides and electronic images may depict details of a work, but no more than a total of three slides/images will be accepted.

All slides and discs must be labeled with the artist’s name, work title, medium, dimensions and year of completion. Slides and discs of work not accepted will be returned if accompanied by a self-addressed stamped envelope.

You can send slides or discs, self-addressed stamped envelope, and entry form to: Rhode Island State Council on the Arts, Attn: Scenes of Rhode Island, One Capitol Hill, 3rd Floor, Providence, R.I.
