GROTON, Conn.—Connecticut authorities said a small plane has crashed while trying to land at Groton-New London Airport, resulting in minor injuries for the two occupants.

Connecticut State Police spokesman Lt. J. Paul Vance said the single-engine plane disappeared from the airport’s radar at about 6:30 p.m. Wednesday.

Emergency crews found it nearby in the woods of Bluff Point State Park after one of the plane’s occupants called on a cell phone to report the incident.

State police and fire crews remained at the scene Wednesday night. Investigators from the National Transportation Safety Board were expected to be called in to review the incident.
